Network planning department has up-to-date equipment, laboratories, design tools and simulation software packages that support new technologies in network planning field (i.e. wireline and wireless telephone networks, wireline and wireless local area computer networks and high speed data networks). The department uses these facilities for training, research and development and technical consultations.

 
 

Department Laboratories

 

Third Generation (3G) Mobile Communications Network Laboratory, based on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) Technology.

This laboratory is the first in the region to include a fully integrated operational CDMA system. It supports wireless voice and high speed 3G data services. It includes a CDMA base transceiver station (BTS), base station controller (BSC), a mobile services switching center (MSC) and a central operation and maintenance center (OMC) that allows monitoring and management of the laboratory network.

Network Performance Evaluation and Simulation Laboratory.

This laboratory is used for training on design, performance evaluation, and measurements of various wireline and wireless networks. It helps researchers to design, implement, measure and evaluate the different new protocols of video, data and voice communication networks.

Power Density Measurement Laboratory of Electro Magnetic Radiations.

This laboratory was established to support the mobile industry in Egypt in measuring the electromagnetic power density from 100 KHz to 3 GHz. It supports measuring electromagnetic waves, radiated from 2G and 3G mobile stations based on GSM and CDMA technologies, It also measures the electromagnetic waves, emitted from equipments of wireless local loop (WLL) networks.

Network Planning and Management Laboratory.

This laboratory is equipped with the state of the art network planning and design tools, HP network management platform Open View, as well as the latest ITU network planning and frequency management software programs.

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) Laboratory.

This laboratory offers training and research in wireless local area network (WLAN) systems.

  1. Measurements of mobile phone base transceiver stations (BTSs) based on GSM and CDMA technologies.
  2. Design and implementation of a data base system for cellular mobile communication stations.
  3. Simulation to evaluate the near field effects of electromagnetic waves, radiated from wireless stations.
  4. Planning of telecommunications networks in rural and urban areas.
